Who Is Behind the Magnetic Tornado Twins?

We are introduced to the artistic force of twin sisters Elena and Stefania Ivanovi—stunning young women with a Hollywood-like presence, as if they had stepped straight out of a lifestyle magazine. Yet they are far from decorative figures; their entire being radiates intelligence and creative energy.

Their paintings captivate viewers with rich color palettes, intricate details, deliberate provocation, subtle nuances, and striking contrasts. The characters inhabiting their works are not merely representatives of the jungle, but avatars within allegorical narratives that inevitably reflect the untamed nature of the human world.

At first glance, the titles of their paintings may seem literal, but there is always an underlying irony—a playful reflection in the dual mirror of the visible and the invisible. The abundance of tropical and equatorial flora and fauna swirls together into a tornado that is, in reality, a volcano of yin and yang.

Elena and Stefania Ivanovi graduated from the National Academy of Arts, and visual art has naturally become their lifelong passion.

Here is what they share about their innovative creative process:

“Because we complement each other, and one of us paints with the left hand while the other paints with the right, we create all of our paintings together, simultaneously.”

Creating in this way feels completely natural to us. Do not be misled into thinking that one of us takes charge of one half of the canvas while the other controls the other half—we are both everywhere within the painting.

We sign our works with the initials TT (short for Tornado Twins), our artistic pseudonym, which we feel represents us perfectly, both as artists and as individuals.

Interestingly, we understand each other almost without words, even at the conceptual stage. The difference is that we often imagine the subject we want to paint as a mirror image. If one of us envisions it facing left, the other sees it facing right. In the end, however, we always understand one another effortlessly and without unnecessary discussion.

The paradox is that individually neither of us would allow anyone to paint even a single dot on our canvases, yet together we have complete freedom to do whatever we wish.
