Crocodiles

There are so many peculiarities about them that they never cease to amuse us with their killing instincts of a predator, mentality, social behavior, vocalization, etc. It’s an interesting fact that crocodile embryos do not have sex chromosomes so sex is not determined genetically. It is determined by temperature where at 30 °C (86 °F) or less most hatchlings are females and at 31 °C (88 °F), offspring are of both sexes.

A temperature of 32 to 33 °C (90 to 91 °F) gives mostly males whereas above 33 °C (91 °F) in some species continue to give males, but in other species resulting in females, which are sometimes called high-temperature females (aka hot chicks!).

The sinister glance, armored scales, and numerous sharp teeth locked in a bite stronger than a vise should not deceive you. It is a perfectly created animal species and just like all living beings – a gift from nature. Let’s leave the prejudice aside and welcome them in our lives with open minds and respect. We don’t know what temperature you keep at home, it’s a personal choice after all.
